My Approach
From my earliest memories, I have been fascinated by the complexities of relationships. This fascination was informed by my own upbringing in the rural Midwest where I witnessed first-hand the effects that poverty, addiction, and lack of mental health resources can have on entire communities. It was there that I also began to learn how love, care, and intention are as necessary for our survival as food, water, and shelter.
These experiences led to my training and work as a systemic and somatic therapist. As a systemic therapist, I look both within and beyond the individual, exploring both the inner world of a person as well as the larger societal structures of which they are a part. As a somatic therapist, I center the wisdom of our bodies as a way of learning about ourselves and our world. I have a special passion for the intricacies of human sexuality and all things related to the body.
I view the body as sacred, even as I understand that it can also be scary. Our bodies provide us with so much information, my work with clients aims to facilitate a communication process between body and mind – allowing our bodies to guide our exploration, expression, and understanding of ourselves.
From survivors of sexual trauma to folks at the beginning of their sexual journeys to anyone in between, I strive to create a space free of judgment and shame, and full of acceptance, compassion, and healing.
I see people individually and as couples, as well as people in polycules and other consensual non-monogamous relationships. Whether you’ve just gotten together or have been together for decades, partnerships are often the most difficult, and the most rewarding, relationships of our lives.
I enjoy working with folks who have never been to therapy, have had poor experiences with therapy in the past, or are reluctant to try it. Together, we can unravel years of experiences, build strong foundations based in mutual respect and communication, and / or investigate the emotional landscapes of desire, aversion, pleasure, and pain.
Our ultimate goals in working together will be to form and maintain new practices of being in relation to ourselves and our loved ones, while tuning in and staying true to your own intuition.
